Summer Curls, but Make it EASY!
By Taylor Galvin
I love summer... but I know curly hair has mixed feelings about it.
One day your curls are looking absolutely perfect after a beach day, and the next you're wondering why they're suddenly dry, frizzy or doing something they've literally never done before.
Honestly? That's just curls.
Summer throws a lot at our hair. More sun, more swimming, more humidity, more ponytails, and usually a little less patience. The good news is, you don't need a completely different routine this time of year. Usually, your curls just need a little extra support.
One thing I notice behind the chair every summer is that curls are almost always craving moisture. If your hair suddenly feels rough, tangled more easily, or just doesn't have that soft bounce you're used to, it's probably time to give it a little extra hydration.
One of my favorite products for that is Oak Curl Crème. I love it because it gives curls moisture and definition without leaving them crunchy or heavy. It helps curls stay soft while keeping frizz under control, which is exactly what most of us are looking for this time of year.
Speaking of frizz... can we stop blaming humidity for everything?
Humidity usually isn't the problem. Dry curls are.
When curls are dehydrated, they start searching for moisture anywhere they can find it—which is why humid days can make your hair feel like it has a personality all its own. Keeping your curls hydrated and using products that help hold their shape makes such a difference.
If you're someone who loves that effortless, beachy texture but doesn't actually love what salt water does to your hair, I've been reaching for Actyva Linfa Solare Salty Texture Spray a lot this summer. It gives you that lived-in, airy texture without spending the whole day at the beach. I love using it when curls need a little more movement or volume, especially on second or third-day hair.
And for my guests who feel like creams are sometimes a little too rich, Eleven Curl Foam is such a great option. It's lightweight, gives beautiful definition, and leaves curls feeling soft instead of stiff. I especially love it for finer curl patterns or anyone who wants bounce without weighing their hair down.
One thing I always remind my curly guests is that not every day has to be a wash day.
Some of the best curl days happen after a simple refresh. A little water, a touch more product where you need it, a few scrunches, and you're good to go. We don't always have to start from scratch.
And please don't stress if your curls don't look exactly the same every day.
I actually think that's part of what makes curly hair so fun. Some days they're bigger. Some days they're softer. Some days they surprise you—in the best way.
The goal isn't perfect curls.
The goal is healthy curls that feel good, fit your lifestyle, and make you feel like yourself.
If you've been feeling like your curls need a little reset, ask your stylist at your next appointment. We love helping guests fine-tune their routines, recommend products based on their curl pattern, and share the little tips that make caring for curly hair feel a whole lot easier.
Happy curl season!
